Tai Chi and Ba Gua as Moving Meditation

Taoist Lineage Master Bruce Frantzis will teach a 5-day intensive on how Tai Chi and Ba Gua have their roots in meditation. While Tai Chi is most often taught throughout the world as a health practice, there is a specific method for using to tai chi to work on emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being too.

Tai Chi's sister art, Ba Gua, was developed in Taoist monasteries thousands of years ago, primarily with a meditation focus.

The January-February 2010 issue of Harvard Magazine features a great survey article of current issues surrounding Tai Chi in the West. I'm excited to share it because the author has really captured the range of concerns we try to address in classes.

Master Wang's Zhong Ding (Central Channel) Exercises [February 20-24, 2010]

Robert returns this winter to teach more material from his teacher, Master Wang Hao Da. Students who attended any of this past Cloud Hands workshops will already be somewhat familiar with this material, but now Robert will teach this set in full.

Winter Hand Warmers

Here's a great list of "Hand Warmers" for cold winter days, compiled by our instructor Ruth Schechter.

  1. Invisible Finger Circles (with thanks to Kathleen Ahern)
    With hands relaxed and down at your sides, let your mind rest in your thumbs. Then gently make tiny circles with your thumbs, first one way, then the other. It doesn’t matter if your movement is imperceptible—make the circles with your mind. Then move on to index fingers, middle fingers, ring fingers, and pinkies.
