Harvard Magazine Tai Chi Article
The January-February 2010 issue of Harvard Magazine features a great survey article of current issues surrounding Tai Chi in the West. I'm excited to share it because the author has really captured the range of concerns we try to address in classes.
Here is a link to the online version. And here is a link to a PDF.
The article interviews three people from the Harvard community who are playing roles in the advancement of tai chi research and who have strong ties to Brookline Tai Chi. Catherine Kerr and Peter Wayne, who work out of Harvard Medical School's Osher Institute have both conducted research studies on the benefits of tai chi in collaboration with Brookline Tai Chi students. BTC Instructor Marie-Helene Jouvin was also interviewed for the article.
I encourage you to read, and share, this piece as a very nice summary of what tai chi is in its own terms as well as what it is becoming relative to the Western medical paradigm. I think the author captures these contrasting views very well.
Enjoy!
