January 22: Steady Breath and Energy Balance in Dragon and Tiger Chi Gung with Bill Ryan

On Sunday, January 22 from 10am - 1pm, come refine your Dragon and Tiger Chi Gung set with BTC founder and Energy Arts Senior Instructor Bill Ryan. Specifically, you will learn how to use the movements of Dragon and Tiger to improve your breathing and balance your energy.

As with each workshop in this series, Bill will teach two different groups.

Steady Breath -- Level 1a Refinements

To help you practice after this workshop, you will receive five weekly email tips weekly on how and what to practice.

Prerequisite: To participate in this workshop, you must already know the basic movements of Dragon & Tiger Chi Gung.

Most of us breathe in an erratic, uneven fashion, and we frequently hold our breaths. Such breathing patterns lock tension into our bodies and diminish the flow of energy through them.

The goal of this workshop is to teach you the basics of how to breathe when doing the Dragon & Tiger exercises, so that you may relax and gain more energy. We'll teach you how to breathe:

  • in a soft, steady, continuous manner;
  • in coordination with Exercises 1, 3, 4, and 6 of the system;
  • quieter and quieter over time;
  • longer, deeper, and more powerfully over time; and
  • with a goal of continuous, conscious awareness of your breath from the start to the finish of a Dragon & Tiger practice set.

Basics Review: We will review the basics of Moves 1, 3, 4 and 6 (Dragon & Tiger Meet, Tiger Crouches, Tiger Separates Her Cubs, and Dragon & Tiger Pierce Heaven & Earth).

Energy Refinements: We'll teach you about key energy pathways of your chest, belly, and lower back and how you can learn to better feel and enliven them.

As Bill teaches this workshop, he simultaneously will teach a Level 1b refinements workshop. Bill will teach one group while the other practices.

If you can, we highly recommend that you also take the Steady Breath - Moves 2, 5 & 7 workshop on February 12.

Energy Balance -- Level 1b Refinements

Prerequisite: To participate in this workshop, you must have permission of the instructor based on your ability to feel chi and do the movements.

Energy Balance: Is your energy often out of balance? For example, do you feel like your energy is too often up and out? Or in and down? Or down and out? Do you go through periods with too much energy or not enough or both?

In this workshop you will learn techniques to help you develop and maintain better energetic balance within the Dragon & Tiger exercise set. You'll also learn in turn how to use the set to balance the chi of your system for everyday life.

We'll address up and down, forward and back, and in and out flows. A particular focus will be how downward flows create upward flows.

We'll show you how to incorporate these techniques into Moves 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as the transition movements between these exercises.

Energy Sensitivity: Bill will explore with you how to feel energy continuously as you do the exercise set.

He'll also teach about how to push and pull chi along key energy pathways of your body.

As Bill teaches this workshop, he simultaneously will teach a Level 1a refinements workshop. Bill will teach one group while the other practices.
